I've realised that idolatry doesn't just come from worshipping some golden statue god...loving money or status...
it's anything that you love more than God. If you are striving and putting all your energy into something, whether it be relationships, more brownie points from people by being a humanitarian...etc to the point that it is the sole thing that identifies you as a person...that is idolatry. Our first and foremost aim should be to strive to love him more than anyone or anything. How often I forget this...I need to remember that our ultimate identity should be found in God.
