real men of steel

Role models. We need them. But in a society of power hungry macho-ness, silent pornographic and aggressive alcoholic addictions, domestic violence and quiet male depression hidden behind closed doors - men of God are a rarity, but we need them to stand up, more than ever. Not just for the sick children or as a Christian role model but for all our men and men-to-be.

Tim Tebow. Jeremy Lin. Clayton Kershaw. And now Bubba.

Slowly but surely, one by one, talented sportsmen who are passionate about God have started appearing in the sports arena and have attracted instant (and consistent) media spotlight. In the process, a sudden interest in God has spiked. When Tim Tebow wrote John 3:16 on his eye black it became the most searched Google item the next day. Not to mention Jeremy Lin, an unlikely overnight basketball star who had been preparing behind the scenes for that very moment he would be on the court. Obviously these talented sportsmen who are on the top of their game - most noteably in football, basketball, baseball and recently, in golf - are becoming almost a phenomena in the media. Not only are they hardworking as with every successful sportsperson, but they have something different about them. A confidence that transcends the anxiety and fear which inevitably tags along with the challenges of each new game, tournament, and season.

It's great to see men of strong faith, true men of steel, are starting to stand up tall for the whole world to see their light shine. Most of all, they bring hope and encourage us to believe it is possible to have it all without the problems of pride, greed etc, that often come with success and fame. In fact the core message is not that hard work pays off with rewards of success, but rather, that if God has your back, then anything is possible. They show that the heart of a strong and steadfast man is focussed and submitted to God - the source of victory. Humility expressed through their successes reflect the character of Jesus living within them.

One can only begin to guess the other amazing things God has planned in these men's lives, and the men who will step up in the future onto the platform God has prepared. After all, everyone has their own platform which has been built for them to use in order to make a positive impact on people's lives.

So why don't you just tap into the heart of God? Then all you have to do is follow, and you'll see amazing things unfold in your life that you may never have anticipated.

"But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." (Matthew 6:33)
